Fan Settings on American Standard® Gold/Platinum
Wireless Thermostats
The fan mode on the thermostat can be controlled either from the thermostat or the mobile app. There are three modes for the fan: Auto, On, and Circulate, and two option settings: Circulation Time and Fan Speed.
Auto Mode
- In Auto mode, the fan only blows when the system is heating or cooling.
- The Circulation Time and Fan Speed are ignored.
On Mode
- In On mode, the fan always blows.
- Circulation Time is ignored.
- Fan Speed is ignored only when the system is heating or cooling. The fan will run at the chosen speed when the HVAC system is not heating or cooling.
- To keep humidity low, the fan may not run in On mode IF:
- The thermostat is in cooling mode and
- The HVAC system is not running a cooling cycle and
- The humidity is above the setpoint.
Circulate Mode
- In Circulate mode, the fan runs a minimum number of minutes each hour.
- Circulation Time sets the minimum number of minutes the fan will run. This time includes when the system is heating or cooling and when it is not.
- Fan Speed is ignored only when the system is heating or cooling. The fan will run at the chosen speed when the HVAC system is not heating or cooling.
Which Fan Settings Are Best?
It is a matter of personal preference which fan setting to use.
Auto is the default setting. On a nice day, it may be desirable to open the windows and set the fan to On mode for a while. Or the fan can be turned to Circulate mode to clean the air, especially if an air cleaner is installed.
